Hearthstone Senior Fair
|
More than 1,500 active seniors turned out for the Hearthstone Senior
Fair. Held at McHenry County College on August 18th, the
event included a health and wellness fair, expo of more than 90
exhibitors, music, lunch and bingo.

New to the fair this year
were presentations in the MCC Conference Center by
Mike Iwanicki from the Veterans Assistance Commission of McHenry Co.
who spoke on benefits available to vets. Paul DeHaan, MD, a
physician with
Mercy Health System spoke on the topic of arthritis; Jane Anderson, Co-Founder of Autumn
Leaves, presented on Healthy Brain Aging; Cheryl Glombicki, NP from
Centegra Health System, spoke about memory loss and Josh Rogers
of Market Financial
Group gave a talk on estate planning.

Also adding to the event excitement were celebrity Bingo callers,
Senator Pam Althoff, Claudia Aquilina,
Congresswoman Melissa Bean, Police Chief Bob Lowen, Glenda Miller,
Kitty Nash, Sheriff Keith Nygren and State Rep. Mike Tryon.
HoneyBaked Ham of Crystal Lake provided
nearly 1,000 free lunches to guests and volunteers working the fair.
Mercy Health System, the gold sponsor of the fair, provided numerous
health screenings and dispensed valuable wellness related materials.
Silver sponsor, Centegra Health System brought their Wellness on the
Move vehicle to provide health screenings and Advocate Good Shepherd
Hospital, a silver sponsor, was on hand to check blood pressures and
answer health related questions. The Vito Buffalo Orchestra
entertained from noon until 3 o’clock with classics from the 40’s,
50’s and 60’s.
Local Garden Clubs
Enjoy Hearthstone Luncheon

Members of the Hearthstone
Garden Club welcomed area Garden Clubs to
their annual luncheon at Hearthstone Communities.
The luncheon included a lively presentation by Kathleen
Carr, President of The Growing Scene in Marengo.
Kathleen detailed several new plants to add to gardens
that will be introduced in 2011. The groups toured
the lovely gardens on the Hearthstone Communities
grounds that are maintained and enjoyed by Hearthstone
Residents and volunteers.

Hearthstone Early Learning Center Kicks Off
“Discover Our World"
Summer Program
|
The Hearthstone Early Learning Center got the summer off to a sweet
start with a walk to Scoops Dairy and Dogs. Looks like the
children are ready to enjoy lots of fun and learning activities this
summer!
The “Discover Our
World“ program at WELC offers children exciting activities and field
trips related to our environment and caring for the Earth. Children
will learn about our oceans, the planets and stars and the amazing
creatures that inhabit God’s world. Special emphasis will be on
recycling and caring for our environment.

Fashion Show at Hearthstone Manor
Children of Staff
Members recently entertained the residents of Hearthstone Manor,
strutting their stuff in cute summer outfits.
