10th Annual 2009 Hearthstone Senior Fair
More than 1,500 active seniors turned out for the Hearthstone Senior Fair. Held at McHenry County College on August 12th, the event included a health and wellness fair, expo of more than 70 exhibitors, music, lunch and bingo. New to the fair this year were entertainers Samuel and Janice Lozada who make up Mo’ Beat Blues, an upbeat and energetic combination of jazz, soul and rhythm and blues. They entertained the large crowd who gathered at the entrance prior to the fair along with the Borderline Barbershop Quartet, a long time fair favorite. For the third consecutive year, Tarts & Truffles Cakes and Catering of Woodstock provided nearly 1,000 free lunches to guests and volunteers working the fair. Mercy Health System, the gold sponsor of the fair, provided numerous health screenings and dispensed valuable wellness related materials. Silver sponsor, Centegra Health System brought their Wellness on the Move vehicle to provide no or low cost health screenings and Advocate Good Shepherd hospital, a silver sponsor, was on hand to check blood pressures and answer health related questions. The Vito Buffalo Orchestra entertained from noon until 3 o’clock with classics from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Vito Buffalo sang Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and received cheers from the excited crowd.
